A Story of SurvivalIn August, 2005, the Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfort, Mississippi was destroyed, leaving 16 dolphins stranded. These dolphins were rescued and nursed back to health and given a new home when Dolphin Cay was built at the Atlantis Resort. Dolphin Cay is a state of the art facility housing Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and gives visitors the chance to interact with the “Katrina Dolphins”. More good news, the family of dolphins has grown, welcoming three new baby calves in 2007. It’s time for you to join in this family affair.
Naturally, one-on-one interaction with the Katrina Dolphins is the highlight of most visits to Dolphin Cay. Participate in the Shallow Water Interaction program and wade in the water with the playful animals. Take a Deep Water Swim and venture in the depths of Dolphin Cay as you dive alongside a dolphin using a hand-held water scooter. Experience the thrill of the signature “foot push” as you are propelled across the lagoon by a dolphin! For a true dolphin experience, consider Dolphin Cay’s Trainer for a Day program where you get a chance to feed, train and care for the marine animals. Spend 6 hours in the company of a marine mammal specialist and learn more about the lives of these dolphins during a backstage tour of the facility. |

With a size equal to ten American football fields and a continuous flow of fresh saltwater, Dolphin Cay gives the dolphins plenty of room to splash around and play. This dolphin habitat is also equipped with marine mammal specialists, a medical lab and an educational center. During your visit to Dolphin Cay, take the time to soak in a little dolphin knowledge and discover what you can do to help protect the dolphins.
