Located approximately 185 miles, or 297 kilometres, from Florida, The Bahamas are known for their gorgeous beaches. From the whisper of palms in lush, vibrant gardens to the lively energy of our town centres, every corner of The Bahamas holds a unique story waiting to be told through your lens. Of the approximately 700 Bahamian islands in this special Atlantic chain, Nassau & Paradise Island are two standouts you’ve got to see to believe. Here, life and colour explode, and serve as a backdrop for capturing candid family memories and posed photo shoots. Whether these photos are for Instagram or your hardcover albums, take this as your excuse to make the most of your ‘& more’ moment in Paradise and set sail to the best and prettiest photo shoot locations you can find on these exceptional islands.

How to take a great picture

Rule of thirds: The rule of thirds is a great way to keep your photos interesting and compositionally sound. When looking at the subject through the lens or screen, imagine the view is split into nine equal rectangles, formed by two horizontal and two vertical lines, creating a grid. Your subject matter should be placed along these lines or at their intersections. A perfect place to practice is at the beach. Try putting the shoreline or horizon along the horizontal lines, and a friend or palm tree along one of the verticals.

Check your lighting: Unless you're going for a particular style, you usually want the subject of your photograph to be frontlit. Make sure the sun is behind the person taking the photo and shining on the subject matter. With approximately 340 sunny days a year on Nassau and Paradise Island, this is a helpful tip to keep in mind!

Use a tripod: Tripods don’t have to be fancy or expensive. They just have to provide stability and a safe place to attach your camera. A tripod will allow you to get out from behind the camera and experiment with new angles.

Change it up: While this is a list of tips, remember, there are no rules when it comes to photography. Take lots of pictures, experiment with different colours, and have fun. There is so much to see and experience in The Bahamas, you don’t want to miss a second of it. Capture it and keep those memories forever.

Good photos are engaging and sometimes a little whimsical. One of the best places to walk that line is at The Retreat Garden. This 11-acre botanical garden is home to over 90 species of palm trees, native and exotic flowers, trickling streams, mirror-like ponds, and a variety of lively birds. The world’s best-known private palm tree collection is located here, so you can take your photos amongst specimens from Madagascar, Indonesia, and Mexico. With wide, flat boardwalks, your family members can navigate with ease, and everyone can join the photo-taking mission. The garden offers countless tucked-away gems that make it the perfect setting for both posed and natural shots.

Looking to capture that West Atlantic look and feel? Head to the Marina Village next to Atlantis. Marina Village can feel like a postcard come to life, thanks to beautiful shops and restaurants lining the streets, boats swaying in the nearby water, and picturesque pastel facades offering countless photo opportunities with a distinct island atmosphere. A perfect place to spend an afternoon, posing with a fresh bowl of conch salad, colourful buildings, or your latest purchase, artistic inspiration is as abundant here as the gentle ocean breeze that dances down around this special marina.

Can you even visit our corner of The Bahamas without stopping by the Queen’s Staircase? Carved in the late 1700s, the Queen’s Staircase isn’t just a stunning photo op, it’s a meaningful landmark that honours Bahamian resilience. This historic landmark is Nassau’s most visited attraction. It stands 31’ tall with 64 steps, making it a wonder to behold. Worth the jaunt to the top, you’ll get to take photos from impressive heights and new angles that are sure to stand out on your social grid.

The mosaic tiles of The Graycliff Hotel’s pool evoke feelings of luxury and opulence. This is an ideal location for curated photoshoots that exude class and sophistication.

Where else can you photograph flamingos in formation just steps from your resort suite? Baha Mar’s Flamingo Meet & Greet gets you up close to some of our island’s cutest residents. Led by experienced keepers, here you can learn about flamingos, observe with the flock, and take some truly special images. This is the ideal time to capture adventurous photos that are sure to make your friends laugh.

Woodes Rogers Tavern at the British Colonial Nassau blends history and modern aesthetics for an exemplary night of dining. With fine finishes, natural light, and an overwhelming sense of importance, your photographs will shine in this establishment. Here, you can capture the feeling of a modern Nassau — fun, grandiose, and special.
