Touchdown in Paradise: The Bahamas Bowl Kicks Off December 24

If you’re spending the holidays in The Bahamas this year (lucky you!), you just might get to make some football action part of your Christmas break! On December 24 at noon, the first-ever college bowl game will kick off at the Robinson National Stadium in Nassau.

The Central Michigan Chippewas and the WKU Hilltoppers have been selected to square off in the inaugural Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. At the time of selection, both teams had a 7-5 win-loss record for the 2014 season, so it’s looking like a great matchup in Nassau.

Located just a few miles south of downtown Nassau, the Robinson National Stadium is named after Thomas Augustus Robinson, who represented The Bahamas in four Olympic Games and became the first Bahamian to win a medal in international competition: a bronze in the 100-meter dash at the 1957 West Indian Federation Games in Kingston, Jamaica. The 15,000-seat facility has also been used for soccer and track and field events.

It’s not just fans who are getting excited about this game. Since this is the only bowl game played outside of the US, it’s a unique opportunity for players and coaches, who only discovered they’d be traveling to Paradise earlier this month.
