Ring in 2015 in Paradise with Junkanoo!

Posted by: Nassau Paradise Island on December 03, 2014

It’s said that how you spend your New Year’s Eve is how you’ll spend the rest of the coming year. If that’s true, what could be better than spending New Year’s Eve in Paradise? Join us in Nassau Paradise Island to ring in 2015 in style – Junkanoo style!

What is Junkanoo? Hundreds of years ago, slaves in The Bahamas were given three days off at Christmas time. They celebrated this temporary freedom with a colorful parade, resplendent with traditional music and handmade costumes. Over time, the parade grew and evolved into an electrifying Bahamian cultural event. Today, it’s known as Junkanoo, and it’s one of the most exhilarating and fun times to be in The Bahamas and experience true Bahamian culture firsthand. Junkanoo takes place on December 26 and New Year’s Day each year.

Shortly after midnight every December 26 and January 1, the streets of downtown Nassau explode in a colorful array of costumes, art, and music of The Bahamas. It’s impossible not to sway to the sounds of the rhythmic goombay drums, copper bells, and mouth whistles. Onlookers are treated to dazzling traditional Bahamian costumes decorated with bright colors. The dark hours only add to the bewitching, exciting atmosphere of the party. This is truly a New Year’s celebration unlike anything you’ll experience elsewhere in the world!

Why not do something different this New Year’s and kick off 2015 with us in The Bahamas? There’s so much to do, the weather is beautiful, and there’s no betterplace to relax, recharge, and start the new year off on a high note.
